Ekaterinburg: a dynamic promising place for business in Russia

Several thousands of visitors attend exhibitions in Ekaterinburg. According to recent statistics, most professional visitors come primarily from all corners of the Ural Federal District (Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk, Kurgan and Tyumen regions; Khanty-Mansi and Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Areas) and partly from the Volga Federal District (Perm Territory, Udmurtian Republic and Bashkortostan).

Ekaterinburg is the administrative center of the Ural Federal District, which comprises six federal subjects of Russian Federation, including Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk, Kurgan and Tyumen regions and 2 autonomous areas (Khanty-Mansi and Yamal-Nenets). The district occupies 11 % of the total Russian area and accounts for 12 million people.

The capital of the Sverdlovsk region, Ekaterinburg, was founded in 1723. The city was known as Sverdlovsk in 1924-1991. Today, it has the population of 1.4 million people.

The Sverdlovsk region is beneficially located at the border between Europe and Asia, at 2000 kilometers from Moscow, and at the crossroads of transcontinental flows of resources, goods, workforce and information. The Ural region is 2 hours ahead of Moscow. Today, the Sverdlovsk region represents a large economic area with high level of business, cultural and social activities and is considered as one of the most promising federal subjects of Russia.

Ekaterinburg hosts Consulates General of 13 countries and honored consuls of 10 countries, which make it the 3rd Russia’s city in terms of diplomatic representation. Dozens of foreign companies' branches are located here. The Koltsovo airport connects the city with more than 100 locations worldwide and holds strong positions as for the passenger flow and the service quality.

Reputable business medias (Forbes, Kommersant, RBK, etc.) have rated Ekaterinburg as a top Russian city. In 2013, it was recognized as one of the most attractive places for business, the leader in terms of industry development rates and one of the most promising Russian megalopolises.

Exhibitions have been actively developing in Ekaterinburg. Ekaterinburg-Expo, a modern exhibition venue with the indoor area alone of 50 000 sqm hosts over 250 fairs and congresses annually. About 30 most significant and efficient exhibitions, including those organised by IEC-Ural, are officially supported by the Government of Sverdlovsk region and Ekaterinburg City Administration.

Ekaterinburg has been selected to host some of the World Cup 2018 matches.
